International Self-Care Day: Our Top Tips

International Self Care Day is July 24, and it felt like the perfect time to ask our team what self care actually looks like for us. Spoiler: it's not bubble baths and candles (though those are nice too).

Real self care is the boring, consistent stuff. The stuff you do on a random Tuesday because it helps you show up as your best self.

Here's what our team swears by.

Dr. Ashley Maltz, Integrative Medicine Physician & Owner

Setting boundaries with my work has been the biggest self care I've ever done. That, and taking quarterly breaks and vacations for my mental health and restoration. Physical movement is also a non-negotiable for me, and so is an early bedtime.

Our bodies weren't designed to run at full speed all the time. Rest, movement, and healthy boundaries all help regulate stress hormones, support immune function, and allow the body time to recover.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is simply give yourself permission to slow down.

Darby Carter, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach

For me, self care starts with managing stress before it manages me.

Living with Lupus and Hashimoto's taught me early on that stress isn't optional to address, it's part of my treatment plan. Keeping my stress low keeps my flares low.

My go-to tool is EFT Tapping. As an EFT practitioner, I use tapping daily to work through my biggest stressors and triggers, and I teach my clients to do the same.

I also lean on nature. Getting outside is my first choice, but on busy days I'll pull up bird sounds or a nature podcast instead.

And I'm a big believer in acupuncture, chiropractic care, and massage. Beyond the muscle relief, this work supports your fascia, which we now know responds to stress and can hold onto chronic tension patterns from unresolved trauma.

Our Biggest Self Care Reminder

Self care doesn't need to be expensive or complicated.

Some days it's:
• Going to bed 30 minutes earlier
• A walk outside
• Saying no to something that drains you
• A few minutes of EFT Tapping
• Finally booking that massage
• Moving your body because it feels good, not because you have to

Small habits, done consistently, add up to big change.

This International Self Care Day, ask yourself: what's one thing I can do today for my future self?

Ready to Make Self Care Part of Your Plan?

Self care isn't one-size-fits-all, and it shouldn't be something you're figuring out on your own. Our integrative team can help you find what actually works for your body, whether that's EFT tapping, acupuncture, osteopathic manipulative therapy, or a plan built just for you.
